Plasma theory day

Organized under the umbrella of the RAPP Center and Research Department Plasma, we are happy to announce the second Plasma Theory Day at RUB, to take plase from March 16 to March 17, 2020. The program is now online here.

It is meant to further intensify the scientific discussion in the area of plasma- and plasma-astrophysics in the UAR research landscape. Please forward this message to everybody interested. I would appreciate if those who intend to come write an email to me, as I need an estimate concerning the size of the lecture hall. Right now we plan to be in NB7/67, but I can reserve a larger room if necessary.

Upcoming Workshop

7th International Plasma Science & Interfaces Workshop

On November 2 & 3, 2020, the 7th International Plasma Science & Interfaces Workshop takes place at the event centre of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The event is organized by Hugo de Haan (programme, Vision Dynamics), Guus Peemen (chair, TuE), and Achim von Keudell (host and chair, RUB).

Key topics and themes:

  • Plasma medicine, medical and healthcare
  • Plasma Surface modification & thin films
  • Atmospheric pressure plasma @ Micro/Nano scale
  • Atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ)
  • Nanoparticles generation and pariclesurface treatment
  • Surface diagnostics, energetics, analytics and –metrology
  • Plasma parameterization, diagnostics, simulation
  • Plasma for Emission Abatement & CO2
  • Plasma parameterization, diagnostics, simulation

The workshop will be a PhD (student) expert-level workshop focused on the achievements, challenges and opportunities for the scientific- and entrepreneurial  community working in the field.

Workshops

WOPMAS 2019 at RUB

The Vth WOPMAS (Workshop on Plasma Modelling And Simulation) has been hold at Ruhr-Uni Bochum Theoretische Elektrotechnik on 5-6th December. Four different groups of scientists (Bochum, Eindhoven, Lueneburg and Cottbus) working on the modelling and the simulations of low-temperature plasma devices joined the meeting. The next meeting is decided to be held in September 2020 at Iserlohn Fachhochschule. The organizers are grateful for the contribution of the Research Department.

Organized conferences

LOFAR Magnetism Key Science Projects (MKSP) Annual Meeting and Busy Days in Bochum 2019

The Astronomical Institute  organized the annual  LOFAR Magnetism Key Science Project (MKSP) meeting from September 27 until September 29, 2019 at the Ruhr-University in Bochum. The meeting was supported by the Research Department Plasmas with Complex Interactions. The main objectives of this annual meeting were to share the latest scientific results obtained by the MKSP members using LOFAR, to discuss current and future projects and to present software and technical developments.

The head of the local organizing comittee was Noelia Herrera-Ruiz. Furthermore, Prof. Dettmar worked within the scientific organizing comittee.

Education

International School on Low Temperature Plasma Physics: Basics and Applications

The traditional summer school on low temperature plasma physics will go on in Octobre this year. The summer school takes place in Physikzentrum in Bad Honnef and is from Octobre 5th, 2019 until Octobre 10th, 2019. After the school, the master class will be from Octobre 10th, 2019 until Octobre 12th, 2019.

Participants are welcomed to sign in for registration until June 15th, 2019. Due to limitation in the number of rooms at the Physikzentrum, the attendance is limited.
