Uwe Czarnetzki has been awarded again in Japan.
Prof. Dr. Uwe Czarnetzki from the Chair of Plasma and Atomic Physics is the man for the very special prizes: In July 2017, he was the first German to receive the "von Engel and Franklin Prize". In March 2018, he even became the very first recipient of another prize: the organizing committee of the International Symposium Plasma (IS Plasma) awarded him the "IS Plasma Prize". The award honors Czarnetzki's extraordinary contributions to plasma physics and its applications.
This was a real surprise.

The prize was donated on the occasion of the tenth edition of the symposium. It has always been held in Nagoya, Japan, with the venue alternating between the three universities there, Nagoya University, Meijo University and Chubu University. In March 2018, the meeting had been held at Meijo University. "The prize consists of an engraved glass monolith weighing several kilograms," explains Uwe Czarnetzki. He only learned about the award when he arrived at the meeting. "It was a real surprise," says the plasma physicist.
