Radka Balastikova a Michal Prochazka, PhD candidates from the Faculty of Chemistry at Brno University of Technology in Czech Republic, are visiting the group Coupled Plasma-Solid State Systems of Jun.-Prof. Jan Benedikt. They work in the team of doc. RNDr. Frantisek Krcma, Ph.D. and they are particularly involved in the preparation of thin films from organosilicon compounds in low pressure plasma reactors. They are preparing for the analysis of their plasma process with mass spectrometry.

04.10.2011: Humboldt-Stipendiat Shinya Iwashita bastelt Materialien aus Nano-Teilchen
Eigentlich wollte er als Kind Baseballspieler werden, doch in der Schule war für Shinya Iwashita plötzlich klar, dass er lieber Ingenieurwissenschaft studieren möchte. Anstatt Bälle mit einem Schläger zu bewegen, erforscht der Humboldt-Stipendiat aus Japan nun, wie man winzigkleine Teilchen transportieren kann, ohne sie zu berühren – quasi wie Baseball ohne Schläger. Dazu braucht er keine Zauberei, sondern lediglich ein bisschen Plasmaphysik.

Der Workshop "Cosmic Rays and the Heliospheric Plasma Environment", organisiert von PD Dr. Horst Fichtner, fand vom 12. bis 16. September 2011 an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum statt. Am Workshop haben 36 Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler sowie 12 Studierende (Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden) aus insgesamt 12 Nationen teilgenommen.
