TET
ZOLTÁN DONKÓ & PETER HARTMANN
On Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at 10:15 am in room 04/653, Zoltán Donkó and Peter Hartmann from Budapest will each give a talk on their research.
Zoltán Donkó: "Measurements of electron transport and (DC and RF) breakdown in different gases."
Peter Hartmann: "Rotodust (Emulating extreme magnetic fields with rotating dusty plasmas)."
The visit of Zoltán and Peter runs through the "Junior - Senior Program". Both are visiting TET from 11-15.4. Jan Trieschmann and Sebastian Wilczek were already in Budapest last year in August at the Wigner Research Centre for Physics to discuss joint research work. The goal is another joint publication on hysteresis effects and confinement quality of high energy electron beams in capacitive radio frequency discharges.

Judith Golda and Julian Held "Plasmas to touch"
As part of the lecture series "Everything Plasma", Judith Golda and Julian Held gave a lecture on the topic "Plasmas to touch".
While in the previous lecture the distance of the discussed plasmas (stars, interstellar medium) was very large, the two speakers showed where we have points of contact with plasmas in everyday life. The participants of the lecture could look at plasmas, touch them and learn more about the tehnical background.

DR. GIANFRANCO BRUNETTI
Dr. Gianfranco Brunetti is again a guest at our chair at the Institute of Theoretical Physics IV / Chair of Space and Astrophysics (Prof. Dr. Reinhard Schlickeiser). The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has awarded him a research prize, the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award. It comes from the Instituto Nazionale die Astrofisica (INAF) in Bologna, Italy. Another stay next year is planned.
Dr. Brunetti will study the acceleration of charged particles in galaxies and galaxy clusters to predict their observational radiation signatures from radio wave to gamma-ray regions.

Dr. Kerstin Weis "Plasmas around Stars"
The next lecture in the series All Plasma was given by Dr. Kerstin Weis on the topic "Plasmas around Stars".
The motivation for the topic was described as follows: When we look into the cloudless sky at night, the stars all appear to us as whitish points of light - yet they are very different. The celestial bodies differ in mass, surface temperature and color. The sun is also a star, and - like all other stars - it consists of hot plasma. Stars, however, not only emit light, but also steadily emit plasma: as stellar wind or solar wind. Under certain conditions, the stellar wind can become visible as a colorful nebula surrounding the star.

ONDREJ UND MARTIN MÜLLER
Dr. Ondrej E. Cibulka and PhD student Martin Müller from the Department of Thin Films and Nanostructures, Institute Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences from Prague (Cz) have been guests of Jun.-Prof. Dr. Jan Benedikt since Feb. 29 within the DAAD exchange program. Dr. Cibulka will stay until 11.3., Martin Müller until 19.3. Their joint project is called "Atmospheric plasma-based generation of silicon nanocrystals for future energy":
The main goal of this project is to explore and demonstrate the potentials of non-equilibrium atmospheric plasmas for the generation of good quality silicon nanocrystals (Si-NCs, silicon quantum dots) and to investigate plasma-based options for passivation/modification of the Si-NCs surface.
On Thursday, March 10, 2016, Martin Müller will give a talk on "Growth of silicon nanowires in PECVD and their application in solar cells" at 4:15 pm (NB5 / seminar room). Interested guests are welcome to attend.
